This is an interview from approximately 1969 with Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding. he had been responsible for establishing the RAF’s Fighter Command during the 1930s and remained its Commander during the Battle of Britain.
He provides a fascinating insight into his role at Fighter Command as the RAF wrestled to maintain control of the skies above Britain in order to prevent any invasion of the United Kingdom.
He tells of the stresses and strains during the Battle; how he prepared Fighter Command for the Battle; the arguments in which he was involved; and about the personalities and politics including those that led to his sacking at the end of the battle.
