This is a story from the Cold War when, during the mid-1960s, the British establishment was rocked by the arrival of Pirate Radio. The government of the day struggled to know what to do about the situation and were further confounded by the popularity of these radio stations.
Amongst all the off-shore Pirate Radio Stations of the mid-1960s, one stood out. It was the most popular; it was the most innovative; it was the most professional sounding; and it wielded the most influence over an audience that represented approaching 20% of the entire nation. To its credit, it was also the only one that ever made a real profit.
This station was called (Wonderful) Radio London. But what appeared to be innocent on the surface was not so innocent behind the scenes.
